When we speak of hosting web servers, there are 3 main varieties - shared hosting servers, VPS (virtual web hosting servers) and dedicated servers. Shared hosting servers accommodate a lot of customers and thus the system resources per web hosting account are limited, virtual private servers offer more configuration autonomy, but also affect other virtual web servers on the hardware node if used heedlessly, and dedicated servers give you the chance to carry out everything you desire without meddling with anyone else.

Why would you need a dedicated servers?

Dedicated servers are typically much more expensive than shared web servers or VPS servers. Why would anyone, then, use them? The explanation is rather simple. If your corporation has a high resource-requiring site, or just has very precise web server setup requirements, the proper option would be a dedicated servers. For someone who is willing to invest in security and reliability, the bigger price is not a concern. You obtain full root-level access and can utilize 100 percent of the web hosting server's system resources without anyone else utilizing these resources and messing with your web portals.

Hardware configurations

The majority of website hosting providers, incl. us at Hostingam, offer several hardware configurations you can pick from in consonance with your needs. The hardware configurations include different kinds of microprocessors, a different amount of cores, different RAM and hard drive sizes and different bandwidth usage quotas. You can select a Control Panel, which is handy software if you would like to use the dedicated servers for website hosting purposes solely and prefer not to resort to a Secure Shell console for all the changes you will be making. We provide three types of web hosting Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The web hosting CP of your preference

If you are a self-reliant Linux user (our dedicated hosting web servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could administer your dedicated servers via an SSH client only. That, though, could be inconvenient, particularly if you choose to give complete server root access to somebody else who has less technical proficiency than yourself. That is why having web hosting CP software pre-installed is a fine idea. The Hepsia hosting CP interface that we offer does not include complete root access and is mostly appropriate for somebody who runs a lot of web sites that require lots of resources, but would rather manage the sites, databases and electronic mail addresses through an intuitive hosting Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel hosting Control Panels, on the other hand, give you full root access and offer three access levels - root, reseller and user. If you plan to resell web hosting accounts rather than utilizing the dedicated servers just for yourself, you should choose one of these two.

Server monitoring and backup services

Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated servers and of backing it up. In case of a predicament with your web hosting server, such as an unresponsive Apache or an outage, it is advisable to have some sort of monitoring system activated. Here at Hostingam the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you have a Managed Services package, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated servers too. Backups are also an additional option - the web hosting supplier offers you data backups on our own backup servers. You could choose a type of RAID that would allow you to save the same data on two disk drives as a protective measure in case of a hard disk failure, or in case someone whom you have ranted full root-level access deletes something by accident.
